An Australian Arrives in Worthing
Where do I begin? With so many changes that have occurred and so much excitement in life, where does one begin to go about looking into, analyzing and discoursing on all the wonders life has on offer? I have been in England since the 28th of February 2016, the chief of that time has been spent in Worthing. In this relatively short time I can honestly say that I absolutely love it here and if I have the opportunity I never intend to leave! Home is what it feels like and home is what I’d like to be able to call it one day.
How does one define home? Many people have tried, but none I think have ever been satisfied with their answers. People keep asking me why. Why did you leave Australia and come to England and why Worthing in particular?
It’s a loaded and complicated question, which always brings me back to the question of Home. Lets try to tackle it one piece at a time however. First off then, why did I leave Australia? Well, I wanted to see more of the world. I wanted to gain some more life experience and try to be independent, if I could. I wanted to delve into the unknown and see what I was made of. To meet new and exciting people and have adventures all my own; to learn new things and be exposed to all the wonders the world has on offer. I wanted to begin to, or try to, LIVE; not merely exist.
Why England in the second place? Well who wouldn’t want to come here? Just look at what you have to offer! You’ve this fantastically rich, multi-layered history, an amazing array of literature and language, and breath-taking, varied, incredible landscape and of course the oddities and absurdities of human nature that play around on every side, no matter where in the world you are. Each new place presents a challenge all its own, each person a conundrum of conflicting, exacting, intricate and varied information.
Finally, why Worthing? Well the short answer is it’s where I found a job. I must qualify and explain that statement however. I did not merely “find a job” and say: “that’ll do!”. No indeed, I was quite specific in what I wanted in a workplace and work colleagues, but Beach House met and has, I must say, exceeded all my expectations and hopes.
Those of you reading this, who know the team at Beach House will know, as well as I do now, that they are an amazing bunch of unique, fun, kind and caring individuals, who not only give their all to help and welcome you into their own peculiar community, but go above and beyond what is simply required enabling us all to live “life at our best”.
They are an absolutely outstanding group of people with so much to give and so much to share that I honestly could not wish for a better place to spend my days. I am blessed beyond measure and profoundly grateful for this home away from home they have provided for me.
