Mindfulness today has become widely accepted by Doctors and Psychologists and as a cognitive therapeutic technique, beneficial in today’s highly stressed environment. Endorsed by politicians and celebrities alike, Mindfulness seems to be a meditation technique that spans different lifestyles. Studies have shown that people who practice mindfulness meditation are better able to relax, and have more control of their emotions. Meditation has also been found to lower the levels of our stress hormone cortisol and to increase production of serotonin, the brain chemical which helps balance our mood and behaviour.
At Beach House Chiropractic we strongly believe in the association of emotional stress and deteriorating health. Our Chiropractors help clients become more aware of how stress impacts the physical body and can often result in painful symptoms such as back pain, headaches and migraine. We’re delighted that Jo Turner of Hove Stress Busters will be joining us at Beach House Chiropractic to host an Introduction to Mindfulness on Saturday 21st November 1.00pm to 5.00pm.
So what is Mindfulness? Mindfulness is the practice of becoming fully aware of the present moment and what you are doing now non-judgementally and completely, rather than dwelling in the past or worrying about the future. Mindfulness can be achieved through meditation, but one can also practice mindfulness through daily activities such as eating, walking, cleaning, etc.
The Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation will be a very practical day exploring mindfulness and meditation. The day will include sitting meditation, following the breath, whole body scan meditation as well as eating and movement meditations. There will be lots of opportunities to discuss what you are experiencing .
Jo has been teaching Relaxation , mediation and mindfulness since 2010 . Jo is also a qualified Stress Management and wellbeing coach . She recently took a further course in Mindful ‘i’ which takes the concept of mindfulness, simplifying and adapting it to fit into our modern lifestyle combining mindfulness based exercises with mindful movement.
