Hi I’m Martina, the Yoga Teacher here at Beach House Chiropractic in Worthing.
I began practicing yoga while at Art school in 2002. I was intrigued by the state of focused attention the mind can reach when absorbed in an activity – such as painting.
I soon started practicing meditation. Both yoga and art have been part of my daily life since.
I completed the British Wheel of Yoga Foundation course to deepen my personal practice. I then trained to teach on the BWY Teachers’ Diploma, teaching since 2007, I was in London for 10 years until 2015 when I returned to my home town, Worthing. My training is in the Viniyoga tradition: a slow, meditative form of yoga, originally taught one-to-one and in small groups. One translation of Viniyoga is ‘right application’, as an approach it involves adaptations and modifications, characterised by its versatility and emphasis on matching the yoga to suit the individual.
In larger group classes I generally teach Hatha Yoga, which involves asanas, working with the breath, relaxation and meditation. For two years I worked in London as the assistant to the UK’s leading Yin Yoga teacher, Norman Blair, covering his classes and developing my approach. I spent 6 years working at the The Life Centre, working on reception, which was also a very informative time, attending hundreds of classes and covering classes while I continued my teacher training.
Since 2007, my generous and joyful teacher, Angelika Grohmann, has likewise been a significant influence on my practice. Along with maintaining my professional development through various retreats and advanced classes, workshops and courses, I have been privileged to integrate her influence into my approach.
I look forward to meeting You!
